The Vision X Tantrum LED Rock Lights package arrived and after a quick unboxing noticed these rock lights were relatively straightforward. There are eight (8) lights in the package along with an adapter, wireless remote and controller. Each light has a varying length of wiring to be placed from the furtherest distance in the rear to the closer placement under the engine.
The first thing that is important to do when looking to install these rock lights or any rock lights is the draw out a basic sketch and placement of the lights. This will allow you to focus on when and how to run the lights. The diagram of my install rock light placements are below.
After this you will want to divide the lights in pairs according to their wiring length and begin running the lights. Once in place, I’ve decided to use magnetics (bought from Lowe’s) and Gorilla glue to easily mount to the frame as opposed to drilling into plastic with small screws. This way I can remove and move placement with ease as well.
Now, if you choose to use the basic install and cigarette power adapter then you will want to pull the wires through the floorboard plug on the passenger side. Then you can mount the controller under the center dash.
Now, for my install, I have decided to mount the controller, but instead of using the cigarette adapter I have wired this directly to my OnyxBox auxiliary control box to be able to use my switch pillar to turn on and off my rock lights.
Overall, there are a ton of different brands on the market and the Vision X lights are a good, reasonably cost effective option to add some accent lighting to your Jeep. The wiring is quality and the length is extremely good for multiple options for placement. The lights are bright and add a sweet look to the under-carriage of the Jeep. However, the way the lights are controlled should be reviewed and rethought to have options for how to control. It is a pain to have to plug the cigarette adapter in to use each time.
